Another capability of a PowerBanc Backup Power Source (BPS) is the option to add a
timer that allows the user to program the system to switch from the public utility
power grid to the system's energy reserve and back at specific times. In effect,
the timer tricks the system into believing there has been a power failure.
Energy is sold at two rates: on-peak (9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Monday through Friday)
and off-peak (9:00 PM to 9:00 AM, Monday through Friday and weekends and holidays).
With the timer, it is possible to use the system's storage capacity during on-peak
hours and replenish the system at off-peak rates.
This will take on greater significance as the results of deregulation
are felt by residential and small business users.
